Decarroux Travaux Publics uses Kraaft as site monitoring software

On March 29, 2022, we went to meet Arnaud Decarroux and Nicolas Borgnano, co-manager and site manager at Decarroux Travaux Publics. Kraafers for over a year, they tell us about their experience.

The challenges of Dacarroux Travaux Publics before using Kraaft

Decarroux Travaux Publics is a family SME with 35 employees located in Haute-Savoie (74). Created in 1969, it specializes in the construction and maintenance of public and private infrastructures (roads, networks and platforms), with a focus on drinking water.

“On this site, a column is being installed that will be used to raise water into the green valley. The challenge is that we have to raise it to 50 bars in a pressure test, it's a phenomenal thrust” explains Nicolas to us. These drinking water (EP) projects are never static: it is necessary to adapt every day to the technical challenges, to existing networks and to the type of soil encountered.

“I had been thinking for a while about how I could improve and streamline communication in the company” begins Arnaud. “We spent too much time looking for information and compiling it at the end of the project. (...) We very often have to talk to the MOEs and MOAs to make adjustments. This means being able to communicate quickly and being able to find the history of everything that was said (...), not only to alert the customer to problems but also to inform the customer about what is happening.”

A tool that is easy to distribute to the entire company

“Kraaft, we broadcast it all over the company. Whether in production, the design office, administration, topography and even mechanics. (...) All the teams got used to the tool very quickly because it is user-friendly and ergonomic” begins Arnaud.

The principle is simple: for each site, the construction company creates a conversation about Kraaft. Teams upload photos, videos, or voice notes. The mobile application takes up very little memory, it works without an internet connection and the interface, similar to WhatsApp, is used in a few minutes by everyone.

“In each conversation, there is me, the team leader and the excavator driver” explains Nicolas. In particular, shovel drivers take photos when they find rock or water. “We are considering how to distribute the app to truck drivers” continues Arnaud. “Kraaft would provide a simple solution to optimize our deliveries (...) I also create conversations for pre-construction site visits: I do my tracking with photos and voice notes, I use it as a reminder for costing.”

The application makes it possible to centralize all site information. Whether it is for Arnaud who uses it “to have an overview of everything that happens on construction sites”. The secretariat that manages PPE, the special requests of everyday life, or even the design office for the modification of plans. At all times, the history of the construction site is retraced in the Kraaft news feed.

Strengthened collaboration with the MOE/MOA

“We work for the Syndicat des Eaux Rocailles et Bellecombe. On each site, I create a shared conversation with the customer and I send him all the interesting information as the day progresses,” explains Nicolas. “The customer welcomed that. We set it up with three technicians and everyone really enjoyed it.”

“During the reconciliation and construction calculation phase, it makes it possible to argue for the variations in the services to be invoiced. And in the summaries, it provides a history of what happened, which is important for the traceability of the work,” adds Arnaud. “Kraaft I also use it to make a video before starting the construction site to make an inventory to show everything that has cracked and damaged” testifies Nicolas.

This possibility of inviting contacts external to the company (via free licenses) makes it possible to offer a differentiating and quality follow-up service for customers. “This delighted them because it allows them to work transparently and communicate quickly” continues Arnaud.

“We're sending more photos and reports. It makes it more professional and surely that we gain points. This is a plus for us (...) which may be the norm in the future.” (Arnaud Decarroux, co-manager at Decarroux Travaux Publics)

Quality monitoring thanks to task tracking and forms

Kraaft makes it possible to add milestones to the construction site conversation to be validated, or forms to be completed. “Under Kraaft, I create tasks, usually three. One to put the DICTs, one to put the plans and the third for the road permits. The advantage is that, when you are in doubt about the plan, you don't have to run to the car (...), if you have a check, the DICTs, the stops: you have everything in your pocket on the phone so it's practical” testifies Nicolas.

It also allows the customer to create their own follow-up checklists. “My client uses the photos to know all the cast iron parts that we put in the eyes and I think that it also makes his work easier” concludes Nicolas.

“Today, we had a taste of it and we are not going to go back. Those who use it adhere because it is an easy tool, which is not a constraint” (Arnaud Decarroux, co-manager at Decarroux Travaux Publics)
