Bouygues Energies & Services Estillac uses Kraaft as site monitoring software

On March 22, 2022, we went to meet Julien Bigot and Maxime Janvier, construction manager and team leader at Bouygues Energies & Services Estillac. Kraafers for over a year, they tell us about their experience.

Bouygues challenges

Bouygues Energies & Services (BYES), formerly ETDE, for “Electricity Transport and Distribution Company”, is a 100% subsidiary of the Bouygues Construction group. An expert in energy performance and services, the Energy Division represents, after The acquisition of Equans announced in November 2021, the first activity of the Bouygues group.

“Today we are installing traffic lights in the town of Casteljalou, with one departmental road and two lights on each side, and lights for the emergency exit of the fire station.” Julien explains to us. The project, commissioned from the Lot et Garonne Energy Territory, is being carried out by the BYES agency, which is dependent on the market.

“On this type of construction site, the problems we can have are with the earthworks depending on the existing gas and electrical networks, and also the delivery times, which are sometimes complicated with the current situation (war in Ukraine, editor's note)” explains Julien. On this EP activity (“Public Lighting”), the work center operates with two teams, one for earthworks and another for electrical connections, and the transmission of information is not always easy.

Easy to use. “Kraaft we use it on all our construction sites, every day”

“Kraaft it just happened. As the application is made for operators, it was very easy to deploy to team leaders,” Julien immediately emphasizes. “Before Kraaft, we tried another application, but it was less effective” adds Maxime. In just a few days, all the agency's teams got the hang of it. “We use Kraaft on all our construction sites, and every day, as soon as there is something on a construction site.”

“The benefit is to centralize all the information on a construction site in a single conversation, and to mix the field and office parts in a single application.” adds Julien. The principle of the mobile application, whose interface is similar to WhatsApp, is simple: construction managers create a conversation for each site and team leaders upload photos, voice notes or videos on the progress of the project. From the computer interface, the driver can add milestones to be validated, generate reports and share certain information with the customer directly from the Kraaft platform.

“Before Kraaft it was more complicated because we sent photos by text message between team leaders and construction managers, or by email, and we lost the photos. It was complicated to find them” continues Julien. “Before Kraaft, we only used our phone and photo transfer” adds Maxime. “The strong point is fluidity (...) being able to categorize construction sites (...) with photos and GPS coordinates”. Because each message sent via the application is time-stamped and geo-located.

Better monitoring of work and delivery of instructions

Another advantage of Kraaft is the real-time monitoring enabled by the news feed. As easy to use as WhatsApp or Facebook, the application facilitates the passage of instructions between teams, or with temporary workers. “When a team comes to do the earthworks and we when we arrive to do the electricity we have access to what they have done (photo, follow-up) before even arriving on site. So we know the work site before starting,” Maxime explains to us.

“On a daily basis, it changes the way we work because we see the progress of the work throughout without necessarily having to travel. And you can easily find the photos you need to show to the customer,” analyzes Julien. “It does not allow you to go less to construction sites, but it allows you to be much more informed of what is happening” he adds.

And for those who want to communicate with their customer directly from Kraaft, you can create shared conversations with your customer, to choose what information you share with them. To find out more about this feature for administrators only, watch our tutorial on YouTube.

“Today we have a news feed, everything is listed by site, it's much easier.” (Julien Bigot, construction manager at Bouygues Energies & Services Estillac)

Valuation of additional work

“The energy community knows that we use Kraaft and we also use it to send photo reports of the work” underlines Julien. Thanks to the custom forms and reports module, Julien can generate Word or Excel reports in one click on his client's format.

“When you needed to get paid for additional work, you had to justify a photo, and when you couldn't find it you had trouble getting paid” explains Julien. “Kraaft, today, it allows us to better invoice our sites because we have more details to show to the customer directly.” And this also contributes to greater transparency for the project management, which must validate and understand the deadlines sometimes encountered in the field.

“It allows my managers to monitor the site remotely and to better report issues to the customer” adds Maxime. For example “the difficulties that may occur when pulling a cable or an uneven mast (...) or if the equipment does not correspond to the terrain”.

In fine, more transparency, better monitoring, and a fair valuation of work.

“The strong point is really the fluidity of the app” (Maxime Janvier, team leader at Bouygues Energies & Services Estillac)
